EXECUTIVE SUMMARY
Hope for better Health started in August 2018 under Isaac Habimana as the director. Its purpose is to improve health in nkuringo community by shortening distance to access to health services, access to quality family planning methods, skilled birth attendance, emergency obstetric care and postnatal care for mothers and new born, health educate people so as to reduce maternal and child mortality rate in nkuringo community.
In Nkuringo most mothers deliver from their homes, others on their way to health facilities, don’t attend antenatal care, don’t attend postnatal care, and don’t use any family planning method and most children are not immunised leading to disabilities. This is because most mothers travel long distance either on foot, by a local stretcher or by a motorcycle to seek for medical services
Hope for better Health has been trying to health educate women to attend antenatal care, postnatal care, use of family planning, nutrition during pregnancy, immunisation of children, involvement of men in antenatal care but most of the women and men have kept insisting that health services are far
Hope for better Health has set up two drug shops in villages of Rushabarara and Mwumba which are the remotest villages in Nkuringo community but these are not enough to offer complicated and maternal services
A Maternity andN ursing home is to be constructed in suma, nkuringo, Kisoro so as to help people of nkuringo to overcome the above challenges
Hope for better Health doesn’t have funders and therefore we call for your help towards the community and construction of maternity and nursing home
The total cost of a Maternity and nursing home is shs. 345,000,000
USD 93,243
BACK GROUND AND HISTORY
Hope for better Health started in August 2018 under Isaac Habimana as the director. Its purpose is to improve health in nkuringo community by shortening distance to access to health services, access to quality family planning methods, skilled birth attendance, emergency obstetric care and postnatal care for mothers and new born, health educate people so as to reduce maternal and child mortality rate in nkuringo community.
Maternal health is a global challenge in Africa which accounts for about half of the world’s deaths with little or no progress towards reduction of maternal mortality. Failure to use Maternal Health services is a key predictor of perinatal deaths
In kisoro district particularly in nkuringo many women don’t use family planning, deliver from their homes, on the way, don’t attend antenatal care, don’t attend postnatal care and some don’t immunise their children.
Nkuringo is disadvantaged because its terrain is highly rugged with poor roads, no means of transport, lack of enough health workers, far health facilities and poverty as most of people survive below poverty line
Many men given these conditions have deserted their homes for greener pastures in distant areas leaving mothers with their children suffering at home which has caused separation for long in families leading to temptations, polygamy and unfaithfulness among couples hence rampant spread of HIV/AIDS
Hope for better health has been trying to health educate women to attend antenatal care, postnatal care, use of family planning nutrition during pregnancy, immunisation of children, involvement of men in antenatal care but most of the women and men have kept insisting that health services are far from them
Hope for better has also set up two drug shops to be serving the community which are unable to handle complicated cases
BROAD OBJECTIVE
To reduce maternal, child mortality and increase access to health services to people of nkuringo community
SPECIFIC OBJECTIVES
Reduce maternal mortality rate in nkuringo
Reduce child mortality rate and disabilities in nkuringo
Increase access to health services to people of nkuringo
PROBLEM STEATEMENT
In nkuringo most mothers deliver from their homes, others on their way to health facilities, don’t attend antenatal care, don’t attend postnatal care, and don’t use any family planning method and most children are not immunised leading to disabilities. This is because most mothers travel long distance either on foot or by a motorcycle to seek for medical services for example it looks not good for a pregnant mother in labour to travel 40km by a motorcycle and on a poor road. Most of pregnant women are carried on local stretchers while they are in labour to where they can at least get a motorcycle
Most of them end up delivering on the way, others give birth to still births, and others get maternal distress and die on the way while others fear to go to hospital due to long distances
PROPOSAL AIM
To set up a maternity and nursing home where mothers will be delivering from, get access to modern family planning methods, get skilled birth attendance, antenatal care, post natal care, emergency obstetric care from and children nursed from in nkuringo community so as to solve the problem of long distance to health services hence reducing maternal and child mortality rate and disabilities among children
TARGET GROUP
All people willing to seek medical attention, check-up and treatment in nkuringo community
